A Texas bus company has agreed to stop busing illegal immigrants from Texas to New York City as a lawsuit by Mayor Eric Adams continues.

Bus company Roadrunner Charters signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, agreeing to stop transporting migrants.

“Defendant Roadrunner Charters, Inc. immediately refrains from transporting individuals known to be immigrants from Texas to New York City and/or from Texas to New York City areas,” the letter reads in part. .

The lawsuit, filed by the New York City Department of Social Services, alleged that 17 companies, including Roadrunner Charters, violated New York state law by failing to pay the costs of caring for immigrants.

The lawsuit sought $708 million in damages.

The lawsuit cites a New York state law that requires anyone who brings in an “indigent person” from out of state for public charge purposes to remove or assist them out of state.

Adams said in a statement that he was “pleased” that Roadrunner agreed to stop busing migrants to the Big Apple in an “attempt to overwhelm the shelter system.”

“New York City will continue to play a leading role in managing this national humanitarian crisis, but reckless political maneuvering by the state of Texas will not be tolerated,” Adams said.

Adams first filed her lawsuit in January, calling the busing of migrants a “reckless political ploy.”

“New York City has and will continue to do its part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the costs of reckless political maneuvering by Texas alone,” Adams said. Ta. “Today, we are taking legal action against 17 companies that participated in Texas Governor Abbott’s plan to transport tens of thousands of immigrants to New York City in an attempt to overwhelm the social welfare system.”

“Governor Abbott’s continued use of immigrants as political pawns is not only anarchy and inhumane, but reveals that he is putting politics before people,” Adams said. “Today’s case should serve as a warning to all those who break the law in this way.”
