Business jet slides 300 yards off Colorado runway during crosswind situation

Private Jet Accident in Colorado

On Tuesday, a private business jet with three individuals onboard encountered a sudden, powerful gust of wind while attempting to land, causing it to veer off the runway at a Colorado airport. This incident occurred at the Telluride Regional Airport, as reported by the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the aircraft—which was carrying two pilots and a passenger—slid about 300 yards off the runway, resulting in significant damage across various parts of the plane. The unfortunate event unfolded around 12:15 p.m.

Authorities noted that shortly after landing, a strong wind hit the jet’s side, pushing it off course. In their Facebook post, they detailed, “The plane skidded approximately 300 yards and came to rest off the runway with its folded landing gear.”

As for the damage, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the midsize Cessna 750, typically used for business travel, suffered a collapse of its left landing gear during landing. Additionally, one of its wings and the front wheel were also affected during the skid.

Photos shared by the sheriff’s office depicted the Cessna leaving the paved runway, resting on snow-covered grass typical of a rural airport setting. One wing appeared to be in contact with the ground, suggesting possible gear damage.

No injuries were reported after the mishap, and firefighters from Telluride were dispatched to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. According to the sheriff’s statement, “Everyone was able to escape on their own and there were no reports of injuries.”

Following the incident, officials confirmed that there was no fire or smoke; however, the airport was temporarily closed.

The Cessna is registered under Mach .92 Leasing LLC, based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the incident for further insights.
