Buster Posey's interview disrupted by awkward hot mic incident

Buster Posey, the president of baseball operations for the Giants, has been in the limelight lately due to the team’s disappointing performance and a scandal related to Pride Night.

While discussions around certain players have quieted, Posey found himself facing more scrutiny during a recent interview on KNBR’s “Murph & Marcus.” What seemed to be a standard 25-minute chat took an unexpected turn.

During the show, hosts Brian Murphy and Marcus Boucher talked about Posey’s thoughts on the MLB Draft and the Giants’ recent picks. It was then that I overheard the KNBR producer testing the microphone.

He repeated “Speak” several times before adding, “Oh, I understand, I understand. I understand 100%.”

Posey has been the target of considerable criticism as the Giants have struggled this season.

The producer inadvertently shared his candid view on Posey, remarking, “Posey is the worst.”

Blanking out the moment, neither Murphy nor Boucher seemed to react, but a caller later brought it up in the following segment. The hosts attempted to brush it off but mentioned they would look into it later.

The broadcast of that segment on YouTube has since been removed.

Looking ahead, Posey is set to become the Giants’ president of baseball operations in 2024. The team’s tough season has been a frequent topic of conversation, with a record of 41-55 leading up to the All-Star break, placing them 24th in points per game and 22nd in earned run average.

Although Posey has faced criticism, it’s clear that this challenging year isn’t entirely on his shoulders. Nonetheless, this incident doesn’t help the public’s view of Giants executives and illustrates the fan base’s frustration with the team’s performance in 2026.
