Buttigieg on Biden’s Re-Election Bid

Former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressed on Sunday that he believes former President Joe Biden should refrain from running for re-election. He suggested that if a decision had been made sooner, it might have benefited the Democrats.

During an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker, Buttigieg commented on a new book from former Vice President Kamala Harris. “He shouldn’t have run,” he stated. “If he had made that decision earlier, we might have had a better scenario. But ultimately, it was his choice. No one else could decide that for him. Now, we face the next big decision—whether it’s for our political parties or for us as individuals navigating life as Americans.”

Welker pressed Buttigieg on whether he had ever advised Biden against running again, questioning the recklessness of those surrounding him for not doing so.

Future Presidential Run Considerations

Harris’s upcoming book, “107 Days,” highlights the significant risks associated with Biden potentially running for another term. She writes that the stakes are simply too high.

When discussing her position on the 2024 campaign, she insisted that “it’s up to Joe and Jill.” Some critics have described this as reckless, suggesting a collective hypnosis around the issue.

A former Biden aide voiced criticism of Harris’s book excerpt, noting that it seemed to shift blame onto Biden instead of reflecting on her own experiences as vice president.

As Buttigieg concluded, “We are where we are. Now the focus should be on building a different future where people can envision not just their political realities but what lies ahead.” In this ongoing dialogue, there’s a certain sense of ambivalence as to what direction the party should take. But what’s next is crucial.
