In a recent interview, former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressed that calls from Democrats to revert to previous norms would be “effectively wrong” and politically unwise.
“The reality is, the lawsuits from governmental bodies don’t just appear out of thin air. If our government, economy, and political climate were in good shape, we wouldn’t be facing this situation,” he stated.
Buttigieg elaborated that if it seems like his party wants to revert to the old ways, it would not only be incorrect but also likely to fail politically.
During the interview with Psaki, he acknowledged that the party must clearly communicate to voters how they differ from Trump and his Republican supporters, pointing to key areas like taxation, wages, and healthcare.
“This isn’t just about agreeing, softening, or altering values. We need to make it clear to everyone how your everyday life is different under our leadership compared to theirs,” said Buttigieg.
This interview marks one of Buttigieg’s first public appearances since leaving office in January. He is viewed as a prominent contender for the 2028 presidential race and as an emerging figure within the Democratic Party.
This month, Buttigieg plans to visit Iowa, a key state for early presidential contests, where he will engage in discussions at a City Hall event focused on veterans and address the impact of President Trump on this group.
