Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.) says former President Trump will maintain access to treatment in Alabama following a controversial court ruling that led some medical facilities to suspend IVF procedures. It has signaled that it is likely to support protections for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, following calls to do so. procedure.
“As with any kind of bill that gets drafted on Capitol Hill, I want to see the devil in the details. But yes, I feel like I can broadly support it, because as I said earlier, , because IVF is so important to so many couples. It helps them raise great families. Our country needs it,” said NBC’s “Meet the When asked by “Press” if he supported protecting IVF services at the federal level, he said:
The Alabama Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that frozen embryos are human beings, marking the first time a court has granted protection so early in pregnancy. President Trump later called on Alabama to protect access to IVF treatment after some clinics in the state suspended IVF services.
Donald was asked about comments Trump reportedly made to reporters last week before saying he supported the state Supreme Court’s ruling. When he was questioned, he said he had not heard about the verdict.
“First of all, I support IVF because I have several friends who have gone through it. It united their families. Thanks to it they were able to have children. . Their children are beautiful. They’re amazing. I fully support this procedure,” he told NBC’s Kristen Welker.
“Secondly, I was in the middle of the hallway when the MSNBC reporter asked me that question. I heard the tail end of it. I didn’t hear about the Alabama ruling. “It was about whether we support that they should be protected as such. Look, embryos are critical to the birth of life,” he added.
He also echoed President Trump’s call to help families have more children, rather than make it harder to have them.
“And, as President Trump has said, we really want the Alabama Legislature to make sure that process is protected for families who are struggling to have children. I think it actually helps them build great families, which is something our country desperately needs,” Donald said.
