Florida Man Shot During Roadside Altercation
A man in Florida was fatally shot after he attempted to mediate a dispute between a couple involved in a car accident. The incident reportedly involved a suspect who was already on bail for a previous aggravated assault charge.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office shared on social media that 26-year-old Raul Lionel Vasquez has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of 56-year-old Darryl Alexander Hill.
According to an arrest affidavit, deputies arrived at an intersection in Apopka, a city located northwest of Orlando, around 8:27 a.m. on Tuesday. There, they discovered Hill lying face down with a gunshot wound.
Sadly, Hill was pronounced dead at the hospital, leaving behind his wife and their 10-year-old daughter.
A friend of Hill’s wife, Susie, started a GoFundMe campaign describing him as someone with a “contagious personality” and a wonderful sense of humor.
Before the shooting, witnesses stated that Vasquez and a woman named Kaidi Honaker were fighting inside a white Chevrolet pickup truck, which crashed into a black Lexus. The argument continued on the sidewalk, escalating in intensity.
Witnesses described Vasquez, who was shirtless and barefoot, getting close to Honaker and yelling at her while pointing. Then, as Hill rode by on his bicycle, he confronted Vasquez, leading to a physical altercation between the two.
After a brief struggle in the bushes, Hill reportedly attempted to flee, raising his hands and calling for help. It was then that Vasquez retrieved a shotgun from the truck and fired at Hill, striking him.
In interviews, Vasquez provided varying accounts of the incident but claimed that Hill was the aggressor. Currently, he does not have legal representation.
At the time of the shooting, Vasquez was free on bond related to a previous aggravated assault charge. In a separate incident from November 2025, he was accused of threatening two individuals with a gun, for which he had pleaded not guilty.
The conditions of his bond included a prohibition against contacting witnesses and surrendering firearms within 24 hours of his release. A trial date has been set for September 22.
In a statement, the State Attorney’s Office acknowledged the questions surrounding Vasquez’s prior arrest and emphasized that all cases are assessed based on evidence and the circumstances surrounding them.
Vasquez had an earlier arrest in March 2025 involving domestic violence but the case could not proceed due to the alleged victim’s lack of cooperation.
