Cab driver killed, passenger seriously injured in LIRR crash

A Long Island Railroad train struck a cab in Suffolk County Tuesday afternoon, killing the driver and severely injuring a passenger, authorities said.

According to MTA police, Daniel Seagren, 49, was arrested about 12:45 p.m. on Wading River Road in Manorville when he drove through a crossing barrier with the barrier down, signaled an oncoming train and then stopped his cab on the tracks.

Shortly after, a LIRR train crashed into the car.

Seagren, of Ronkonkoma, was rushed to Peconic Bay Hospital but did not survive.

The train was traveling from Ronkonkoma to Greenport when the accident occurred.

The train was traveling east from Ronkonkoma to Greenport and had about 50 passengers on board when it collided east of Yap-Hunk Station.

No passengers on the train were injured, MTA police said.
