Cadillac Formula 1 Team Reveals 2026 Driver Lineup
After months of anticipation, the Cadillac Formula 1 team has officially announced its driver lineup for the 2026 season.
In a recent social media update, the team confirmed that seasoned drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas will take on the roles of the first two drivers. Both racers were seen participating in the 2024 season—Perez with Red Bull and Bottas with Sauber—but Bottas was replaced before the 2025 season.
Currently, Bottas serves as a reserve driver for Mercedes, while Perez has taken a break from racing for a year.
This combination brings together two highly skilled drivers to a new team in Formula 1, each with a history of success. Bottas was part of a Mercedes team that secured five constructors’ championships during his tenure, and Perez contributed to Red Bull’s constructors’ championship alongside Max Verstappen.
With Cadillac seemingly preparing to launch its own power unit program, having experienced drivers providing feedback will likely enhance that initiative.
“From the first moment I engaged with the Cadillac Formula 1 team, it felt unique—ambitious, yet grounded,” Bottas shared in a media statement. “This project isn’t merely about racing; it’s a long-term vision. It’s a rare opportunity to help create something from the ground up and mold it into a legitimate contender in F1.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the top teams globally. You can already sense the same level of professionalism and drive here. This legendary brand has a significant history in American motorsports, and making its mark in Formula 1 is incredibly special for me. It’s an exciting step forward.”
“Joining the Cadillac Formula 1 team marks an exhilarating new chapter in my career,” Perez remarked. “From our first conversation, I felt the passion and commitment behind this project. It’s a privilege to help build a team that can grow together and compete in the future. Cadillac is an iconic name in American auto racing, and I feel a tremendous responsibility to elevate such a revered company in F1.”
“I’m proud to be involved in such an ambitious and impactful project right from the start. Being part of this dynamic lineup, I look forward to shaping this team into a genuine contender, an American team.”
Cadillac’s team principal, Graeme Lowdon, characterized the announcement as a “statement of intent” from the new player in Formula 1.
“Bringing on two highly experienced drivers like Bottas and Perez sends a strong message,” Lowdon noted. “They possess the knowledge and skills required to succeed in Formula 1. Even more crucial is their understanding of how to help build this team. Their leadership, feedback, racing instincts, and, of course, speed will be invaluable as we bring this team to life.”
This announcement also connects with a documentary series featuring Keanu Reeves that highlights Cadillac’s journey to the F1 grid.
As Formula 1 gears up for the Dutch Grand Prix this week, the newly formed Cadillac team looks forward to its debut, armed with a pair of veteran drivers.
