Cadding Joins Formula 1 as New Team
Cadillac is set to become the 11th team in Formula 1 next season, marking an expansion of the grid.
This addition creates opportunities for two new driver seats during what is often called the “silly season.” Ahead of the UK Grand Prix this weekend, Cadillac’s team principal, Graeme Loudon, mentioned that they are “in discussion” with various drivers for the upcoming season.
“The good thing is we know many of the drivers,” Loudon remarked. “We’re involved with both the up-and-coming young talent from Formula 2 and the more experienced drivers with a substantial amount of F1 background. We make it a point to talk to them often and spend time in the paddock.”
He added that while no announcements are expected this week, fans should stay tuned for updates.
“We’re in talks with a lot of drivers,” he explained. “No news will come out at Silverstone, but do keep an eye on this space.”
Loudon emphasized that the team’s primary focus is on developing competitive cars for the next season. Arriving on the grid coincides with new technical regulations, which not only impact the cars but the sport as a whole.
“So far, our main focus is on building cars. If we had shown up in Melbourne without a car ready to drive, no one would have appreciated that,” Loudon stated.
When the conversation turned to veteran driver Valtteri Bottas, often speculated to be a potential recruit, Loudon noted Bottas’s recent social media post where he shared a video showcasing a Cadillac SUV. However, he declined to comment directly on the connection.
“I saw that post—it shows that he bought a Cadillac!” he noted, adding, “There’s a real blend of skills involved in selecting a driver, and we’re fortunate right now. I’m not under pressure from other teams, so I can afford to take my time to ensure the driver lineup is just right.”
“I hope fans are looking forward to it too, especially with new teams entering the grid that they can support,” Loudon concluded.
It seems the driver “silly season” is heating up, with ongoing rumors surrounding Max Verstappen’s interest in a seat with Toto Wolff’s Mercedes amid the arrival of Cadillac in Formula 1.
