Indiana Fever Defeats New York Liberty

Indiana Fever’s head coach, Stephanie White, had a brief moment in the spotlight just before Tuesday night’s game. But once the match began, her team took over the narrative.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell started strong, netting 20 of her 28 points in the first half. Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark contributed significantly with 22 points and 10 assists, helping Indiana secure a 106-92 victory over the New York Liberty. This marked their seventh win in the last nine games.

Mitchell was impressive, making 11 of 16 shots. She wasn’t alone; Clark and Sophie Cunningham each hit four 3-pointers, with Cunningham finishing the game with 12 points. Aliyah Boston also made her mark with 19 points and seven rebounds.

On the Liberty side, Brianna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu scored 19 points each, while Jonquel Jones added 14 points and ten rebounds.

After a solid third quarter where New York managed to limit Indiana’s 3-point attempts, they closed the gap to 66-57 with about seven minutes left. However, Mitchell’s 3-point play and Cunningham’s shot at the end of the quarter helped extend the lead back to 87-67.

Before the game, White addressed some criticism regarding her handling of a flagrant foul incident involving DeJonai Carrington and Cunningham. She urged everyone to focus more on the game rather than distractions. White expressed strong emotions, stating, “The hateful, fear-mongering people who want to take over our league will not win. We are united. When they are down, we go high every day. Love wins. Kindness wins. I stand by them.” After making these remarks, White left swiftly without answering questions.
