Many have said that every time Caitlin Clark plays in a basketball game it seems like she’s setting new freshman rookie records, and while that’s certainly true, that’s basically the truth.
On Sunday, Clark poured in 23 points against the Seattle Storm, reminding the USA Women’s Basketball Selection Committee that not selecting her for the U.S. team was a huge mistake. The 92-75 win gave Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever a crucial edge in the race for playoff seeding. And historically, it was Clark’s 225th assist of the season, breaking the previous record of 224 set by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998.

What’s even more impressive about Clarke is that she accomplished the feat in 28 matches, two fewer than it took Penicheiro.
Unlike longtime rival Angel Reese, Clark isn’t breaking WNBA records by taking a ridiculous number of shots and collecting rebounds off her own misses. She’s actually distributing the ball efficiently and effectively to her teammates, which has helped the Fever rise from being by far the worst team in the league to a respectable third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.

The history-making moment against the Storm followed another big moment on Friday, when Clark recorded his 10th double-double in a 98-89 win over the Phoenix Mercury.
