It’s no secret that Caitlin Clark has driven WNBA ratings records, but she’s also driven attendance records, and Tuesday night was no exception.
The Indiana Fever took on the defending champion Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night with a whopping 20,366 fans packed into the arena, the largest attendance in 25 years of WNBA history, fifth-best all-time and the largest in Las Vegas Aces history.
That last point is key. Remember, the Aces are the defending champions. They’re a good team and have the best player in the league in A’ja Wilson. And when did they set a franchise attendance record? When Caitlin Clark came to town.
Similar to what happened in Atlanta, when the Dream had to relocate from their regular stadium to a larger NBA arena to accommodate the massive crowds Clark would draw, the Aces had to switch from playing their usual Michelob Ultra Arena (12,000 seats) to T-Mobile Arena (20,000-plus seats), where they usually play their games.
Clark dazzled the Las Vegas crowd with 13 points and 11 assists, but Aces stars Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson added 34 and 28 points, respectively, to lead Las Vegas to an 88-69 win over the Fever.
Clarke won in a different way on Tuesday night, when she learned she had earned a spot on the WNBA All-Star team with an overwhelming 700,735 votes, more than any other player.
