Caitlin Clark broke an unbreakable record, and Nike knew exactly how to respond

Caitlin Clark attended the Iowa vs. Iowa game. Ohio The Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon were on the verge of breaking one of the most unbreakable records in all sports: Pete Maravich’s career scoring record in DI college basketball. Clark broke Kelsey Plumb’s women’s scoring record a few weeks ago and needed just 18 more points to break Maravich’s 3,667 point record since 1970.

Clark beat Maravich’s mark with two free throws just before halftime. Nike was preparing a great new ad in Iowa City when it happened. First, Nike posted a full-body image of Clark taking a deep 3-pointer off the side of an apartment building. Nike then placed another ad in a parking lot across the street with hoops and the phrase, “This was never a long shot.”

When Clark finally broke Maravich’s record, Nike released an amazing digital ad listing her career accomplishments.
