Caitlin Clark had no rust to shake off on Friday.
After not being selected for the Olympic team, the rookie phenom has been without competitive basketball for nearly a month, but she was unfazed when the WNBA regular season resumed.
Clark scored 29 points (one shy of his career high) and had 10 assists in the Indiana Fever’s 98-89 win over the Phoenix Mercuries.

She made half of her shots from the floor (8 of 16) and 4 of 11 3-pointers. Clark also made 9 of 10 shots from the free throw line.
The Fever led by 17 points by halftime, but the Mercury went on a 25-7 run to take a one-point lead at the start of the half, then Indy ended the third period on a 12-3 run to take an eight-point lead entering the fourth period.
Clark scored eight points and had four assists in the final quarter to help the Fever win.

The Fever started the season 3-9 but have won nine of their last 14 games to improve to 12-15 on the season.
Clark has also bounced back well, recording eight double-doubles in her past 10 games. She is averaging 19.8 points and 11.7 assists per game in that span.
She last played in the WNBA All-Star Game last month, where she received the most votes, surpassing only Clarke in receiving more than 700,000 votes.
While in Paris, Dawn Staley said Clarke very likely would have been selected if the USA Basketball selection committee had reconsidered its roster.

The women’s team won another gold medal, but Clarke did not compete. However, it seems almost certain that she will compete in Los Angeles four years from now at the 2028 Summer Olympics.
