Caitlin Clark discusses her 'worst' ankle sprain that kept her out of action

Caitlyn Clark Discusses Injury Challenges After Season

During an exit interview on Thursday, Caitlyn Clark shared her experiences regarding a lower body injury that kept her from playing in many games with the Indiana Fever this season.

The 23-year-old athlete responded to reporters after the Fever faced defeat against Las Vegas in the playoffs. “I’ve put in a lot of work to get back to my best, but honestly, it’s only been in the past few weeks that I’ve started to feel like myself again,” she explained.

Clark had a rough season, appearing in just 13 games. She sustained an initial injury to her left groin and quad, managed to return, but then dealt with another injury to her right groin just before the All-Star break.

On top of that, she also mentioned dealing with bone bruising in her left ankle while attempting to regain form in early August. “My ankles just weren’t cooperating when I tried to make a move. It led to one of the worst sprains I’ve ever had,” she added.

Clark acknowledged that facing these injuries offered her some valuable lessons. “Despite everything, I tried to stay positive. I think I’ve learned a lot about leadership and empathy for my teammates in tough situations. When you’re caught up in the game, your emotions can be all over the place,” she noted.

Unfortunately, in early September, Clark declared that she wouldn’t be returning for the remainder of the season due to her injuries. Additionally, she hasn’t participated in the 3×3 women’s basketball league this off-season.

This season, despite her challenges, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds over 31.1 minutes per game. Interestingly, the Fever, facing the odds, were able to push the ACE to a fifth game in the WNBA semi-finals, even without key players like Clark and Sophie Cunningham due to injuries. It’s impressive, really.
