That wasn't the only thing that made Caitlin Clark's draft night exciting.
Fevergaard recalled feeling “very upset” after Indiana selected her with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft on April 15 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
“I was very upset because I just stopped using drugs right after I got drafted and I didn't get to watch any draft games.” clark said He appeared on the podcast “Fresh Talk” with former Iowa teammates Kate Martin and Gabby Marshall and host Jada Gyamfi, a Hawkeyes junior forward.
“I had my cell phone, but I really couldn't use it. It was very upsetting. I didn't even get to see Kate get drafted…but it was really upsetting,” Clark continued.
“Then we went and had fun, but…I didn’t even take pictures with you guys or my family. [boyfriend] Connor McCaffrey — Nobody. ”
Martin entered this year's WNBA Draft to support Clark and was selected by the Las Vegas Aces with the 18th overall pick.
The Iowa State product was sitting in the crowd receiving the draft when WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert called her name in the second round.
Clark's experience in the WNBA Draft was different for many reasons.
The former All-American guard just finished a historic career at Iowa that included back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2023 and 2024.
In her fourth year with the Hawkeyes, Clark became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I men's and women's basketball.
When she arrived in Brooklyn, Clark was already a celebrity, and her fame was rapidly growing.
It's also common for first-round draft picks to be deprived of photos, interviews and other mandatory duties.
As Clark said, the group went out and had fun after the draft.
Clarke, McCaffery, Marshall, Martin and Gyamfi enjoyed celebratory drinks in The Fleur Room, a glass-enclosed lounge on the 35th floor of Moxy Chelsea. From there, you can enjoy 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building.
Rayna Harmon, who was an assistant coach with the Hawkeyes at the time, was also seen with the group in a photo on social media.
Clark broke numerous records during his rookie year and was named to the WNBA All-Star Team on his way to winning WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2024.
She has not yet decided whether to join the Unrivaled League, a new 3-on-3 league founded by the Liberty's Brianna Stewart and the Lynx's Nafeesa Collier. This league takes place during the WNBA offseason.
The league reportedly offered Clark more than $1 million and a revenue-sharing opportunity.
