When Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese take the court together as teammates in Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick believes her Sky rival will outperform anyone on the court.
During an interview on the red carpet to kick off the celebrations in Arizona, Clark predicted Reese would be the All-Star Game’s leading rebounder.
Reese’s 11.9 rebounds per game are the best in the WNBA this season, and Clarke is clearly expecting her to be in action Saturday night when the WNBA All-Star team takes on the U.S. Women’s National Team at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
“She’s definitely going to lead the game in rebounds, that’s what I expect from her, that’s what she does,” Clark said Thursday night.
The comment quickly spread on social media and, naturally, became a hot topic due to the budding rivalry between the two rookies.
Clark and Reese have managed to stay out of the media spotlight, but the Clark vs. Reese debate has raged since the 2023 NCAA Finals and has captured the imagination of basketball fans.
The two teams have had a storied rivalry dating back to their collegiate days, when Louisiana State defeated Iowa in that tournament and Iowa got revenge on the Tigers in this year’s Elite Eight.
Clark expressed excitement at the idea of being able to play alongside her during All-Star Weekend.
“I’m really excited,” she said. “I think it’s great. It’s rare to have two rookies in an All-Star Game, so we’re just going to enjoy it. Obviously the fans are excited. I think it’s really good for W and she’s obviously having a great year, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Reese has been a key player for Chicago since being selected seventh overall in April’s draft, averaging 13.5 points per game.
Clark lived up to the expectations of being the No. 1 overall pick, setting a WNBA record with 19 assists in a single game on Wednesday night.
