Caitlin Clark out for an unknown period as WNBA's second half gets underway

Injury Sidelines Caitlin Clark in WNBA Season

After a remarkable rookie season where Caitlin Clark earned Rookie of the Year honors, her sophomore year with the Indiana Fever has faced significant setbacks due to injuries. Recently, the Fever traveled to Las Vegas for a match against the Aces, but Clark will not be participating due to a groin injury.

This injury, it seems, has been a lingering issue for Clark since she played against the Connecticut Sun back on July 15. The Fever provided an update on her condition, noting that Clark underwent further medical evaluations, which thankfully revealed no additional injuries. A spokesperson for the team stated that she will continue to work on her recovery with the medical staff while prioritizing her long-term health.

There’s currently no timeline for her return, which is, I guess, a bit concerning for fans and teammates alike. In a recent game against the New York Liberty, Clark could only watch from the bench. Reports indicate she also had a medical consultation in New York during the team’s visit, but details remain scarce.

This season, Clark has played in just 13 games. Earlier, she was sidelined for three weeks due to a quadriceps injury, and then more recently, it was a left groin issue before this new development involving her right groin. Without their star guard, the Fever have struggled, managing to win only four out of the eleven games she missed.

Clark was recently named an All-Star for the second consecutive year but had to sit out the All-Star game due to her injuries. Reflecting on her current situation, Clark mentioned, “This is the first time I’ve never felt like a young body that can run around and sprint every day.” It’s a reminder that taking care of both body and mind is crucial, especially for athletes.

While she was an unstoppable force during her college career at Iowa—never missing a game due to injury—her performance this season hasn’t quite mirrored her past success. She’s found herself in a shooting slump, managing only seven successful three-point attempts out of 49 in the last seven games.

At just 23, Clark started her season on a high note with a triple-double in her first game. Currently, she averages 16.5 points and 8.8 assists, but the Fever, now with a record of 12-12, certainly miss her contributions on the court.
