Kate Linklark has kicked off her sophomore season in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever, showcasing some lighthearted banter with her teammates. On Friday, Sophie Cunningham shared a photo on Instagram featuring her new teammate, Lexi Hull, just before her first preseason match against the Washington Mystics. Cunningham was traded from the Phoenix Mercury in the offseason, and it seems she’s already bonding with her new team.
In a playful exchange, Clark commented on Cunningham’s post, saying, “A little less tan. A little more bbball woman,” which quickly garnered a lot of attention, with over 10,000 likes. Cunningham also added her own joke, captioning a picture of Clark with, “The tan is coming… Everything else is puff.” It’s clear that they’re building a playful camaraderie. When Cunningham joined the Fever, she praised Clark, referring to her as a genuinely good person with a great sense of humor.
Cunningham told a sports outlet in April that she’s excited about the potential this team has if they can build a solid chemistry on the court. She believes the Fever’s “style of play” suits her, and with the right synergy, they could be strong contenders for the championship.
Cunningham expressed her eagerness, noting her excitement not just for Clark, but for the entire team, including veteran Kelsey Mitchell. Making a shift to a new team after several years was refreshing for her. “It’s been redoing and focusing again on my energy,” she explained. “At the end of the day, I just want to win. I want a championship, but I think this is the perfect team for that.”
Selected in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft, Cunningham has made quite a name for herself, playing in 182 games and averaging 7.7 points, along with 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists. This season promises to be interesting for the Fever as they mix new talent with seasoned players.
