The craze (no pun intended) for Caitlin Clark is still at a fever pitch.

Not only was the WNBA rookie phenom named to the All-Star team, she also received the most votes of any player.

Clark was the only player to receive more than 700,000 votes (735 votes behind), with Indiana Fever teammate Aaliyah Boston coming in second with 618,680 votes.

Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson, who received the most votes in the first round, came in third with 607,300 votes.

As of Tuesday, Clark was averaging 16.2 points and 6.9 assists per game, both of which were top marks among rookies, while he was third among all players in assists per game and 16th in points per game.

Clarke will team up with longtime rival Angel Reese, who recently set a league record for the most consecutive double-doubles in league history (10). Reese is averaging 11.8 rebounds per game, leading the WNBA and one of just four players averaging a double-double this season.

Clark recently poured cold water on any discussion of a “rivalry” between the two, but their matchup is one to watch. It all started at the 2023 national championship game when Reese, then a Louisiana State player, challenged Clark, then a University of Iowa Hawkeye, by saying, “You can’t see me,” and pointed at her ring finger.

Clark and Iowa got their revenge in the last March Madness tournament, with Clark now 2-1 against Reese in her WNBA career. Now the two will share the same locker room, bench and maybe even court. Their last two meetings were the most-watched WNBA games in more than two decades.

Clark and Reese were the only two rookies selected to the All-Star team, and although they would play against the U.S. Olympic team, Clark was left off the team, a decision that remains highly controversial.

The Fever started slow, losing 10 of their first 13 games, but then won four straight before losing two of their next three games. As of Tuesday, they were 8-12 this season.

Since scoring just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting on June 13, Clark has bounced back and scored in double figures in six straight games, a season-high, during which he has also recorded three double-doubles, two of which came very close to a triple-double. He has recorded 30 points twice this season and 20 or more points in seven games.

Of course, the buzz surrounding Clark goes beyond her success on the court – her extraordinary popularity has led to record-breaking ratings and attendance, sparking speculation that some of her WNBA colleagues may be jealous of her.

Wilson even went so far as to claim that Clark’s popularity was due to her being white, and there were other direct and covertly derogatory remarks made about her.

Last week, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert denied that she was being targeted, saying that despite what might seem to be the case because of the attention she receives, she is treated like any other player on the court.

Clarke and Wilson face off Tuesday night in Las Vegas, with the All-Star Game being held in Phoenix on July 20.
