Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark Makes Progress Towards Return

Caitlin Clark hasn’t been able to rejoin the Indiana Fever on the court just yet, but it seems she’s taken some encouraging steps to make that happen. Clark has been sidelined due to a persistent groin injury since July 15. However, she participated in light workouts during a shootaround just prior to a game against the Minnesota Lynx.

Head coach Stephanie White noted that while Clark hasn’t officially resumed practice with the Fever, her involvement in the shootaround is a positive sign. “She was on the floor for the first time with us, so it was a good step,” White mentioned.

White described Clark’s current role as one that is “very low maintenance” and “low strength.” The specifics of her return to play remain uncertain. “I think I’m just going to get her back there, make her comfortable, and see where she’s going,” she added.

During the drills, Clark engaged in non-contact, low-impact activities after successfully completing a dynamic warm-up. With only seven games left in the regular season, the Fever are keen to maintain their playoff position, currently holding a record of 19-17, putting them at No. 6 among the standings. The top eight teams will qualify for the playoffs.

For Indiana to stay competitive, Clark’s return could be crucial. The team recently faced another setback with Sophie Cunningham tearing her MCL during a match against the Connecticut Sun, adding to the list of injuries that include Sidney Colson and Aari McDonald, who are both out for the season.

Clark, who suffered a bone bruise in her left ankle on August 7, has only played 13 games this season. She initially struggled with a quadriceps injury before developing her current ailment.

This season, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds over 31.1 minutes per game. The Fever are hopeful that she can return soon, as they hold on to their playoff aspirations.
