The Sun’s May WNBA Newcomer of the Month She was limited to just 10 points and only played 22 minutes, before being ejected midway through the third quarter after picking up her fourth foul and never returning to the court.
After the game, Clark was clearly disappointed with her performance, but she smiled when asked about University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley turning down the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers to stay with the Huskies.
“I saw it,” Clark said with a smile as I began to question him about Hurley’s decision.

“No, that’s a really good choice,” Clark replied with a laugh. “I’m really impressed. [Hurley]”I love his enthusiasm. I think the way he coaches the game is great. The way he coaches his players is great too, and he holds them accountable. He really gets the best out of them.”
It’s interesting that Clark was quick to mention that one of the things he most admires about the Connecticut head coach is how he holds players accountable. Players don’t really like that about him, at least not at the moment, but many later realize it was for their own good.
“I’ve loved watching them play the last few years and I think it’s great that he’s stayed in college basketball,” she continued. “I think he really loves basketball and he loves being with these young players and he’s developing them into great players. I’m a big fan of his and a big fan of his program and it’s been fun watching them play.”

Of course, Clark isn’t the only one who feels that way. After winning back-to-back national championships, Hurley decided not to try out for the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, but to go back and win another championship to make it three in a row. That’s great news for college basketball, and one that Caitlin Clark knows a little bit better.
