Caitlin Clark scores 29, Iowa wins in first Rutgers sellout since 2006

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Caitlin Clark put on another show on the road, much to the delight of her adoring fans.

Clark had 29 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds on Friday night for his 14th career triple-double, leading No. 4 Iowa to a 103-69 victory.

Like many of Iowa State's road contests this season, Friday's game was a sellout. It was the first time for Rutgers since the team hosted UConn in 2006.

Fans, many wearing Clark shirts and jerseys, waited in line for nearly two hours to get in.

they didn't disappoint.

“The crowd was incredible,” Clark said. “There were so many little girls that I hadn't seen them in a while. They don't come out to the East Coast very often. The cheers I got when I ran down the court were really special. Some moments I'll never forget.”

From his deep 3-point shot to his 30-foot bounce pass that led to a layup, the AP Player of the Year made his presence felt on the court, drawing loud cheers almost every time he touched the ball.

She had nine points, four rebounds and three assists in the first quarter when Iowa (15-1, 4-0 Big Ten) led 25-19.

The Hawkeyes took control in the second and defeated Rutgers 30-11, leading by 25 points at halftime.

“Once the stops started coming in, I was able to push a little bit,” Clark said.

The only drama in the second half was whether Clark could achieve his third triple-double of the season.

She did it early in the fourth quarter, securing her 10th rebound and then recording back-to-back assists to reach double digits in that category.

She finished the game with 6 minutes and 20 seconds remaining to loud cheers from the crowd.

“I think one of the things that makes Iowa such a dynamic team is the way Caitlin's teammates play with and around her,” Rutgers coach Cocksey Washington said. Ta. “It's very special to have teammates who understand how to make a generation of talent be themselves and make themselves better. Within a framework where everyone can perform at their best. Just play. Her teammates are doing a great job of that.”

Kate Martin added 17 points for the Hawkeyes, who had five players score in double figures.

Iowans drove an hour to New York on Thursday to enjoy the shows and sightseeing. The Hawkeyes went to Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and Times Square.

Cassondra Brown had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rutgers (6-11, 0-4).
