The expectations for Caitlin Clark have always been real, but Wednesday was the biggest proof yet of why that is.
Clark made a name for himself as a scorer during his collegiate career, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer earlier this year.
Sure, she can score goals at the professional level, but her history is being made in the assists department.

Clark set a WNBA record for most assists in a single game with 19 assists on Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings.
The previous record was held by Courtney VanderSloot, who recorded 18 on August 31, 2020.
Clark had a chance to complete an incredible feat with 20 assists (and 24 points), but his pass in the paint in the final seconds of the game was blocked by stout Dallas defense.

Clark had 13 assists through the third quarter, tying a career-high he’d already set four times this season (all since June 23), then added six more in the fourth quarter, giving him 11 in the second half alone.
Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain as the Fever lost to the Wings, who entered the match with a score of 5-19.
The game was tied at 93-93 with 2:20 left (after Clark’s 19th assist), but the Wings finished the game on an 8-0 run to prevent Clark from becoming the founder of the 20-point, 20-assist club.
After failing to record double-digit assists in any of his first 17 games, he has recorded double-digit assists in seven of his last nine games and has recorded 13 or more assists in four of his last five games (three straight games with 13 assists).

Although the Fever lost, it’s very good to hear Clark share his personal thoughts.
Clark will play in the All-Star game this weekend alongside fellow rookie record holder Angelle Reese, but it will be her final appearance until mid-August after being controversially left off the Olympic roster.
