INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark expressed satisfaction with the WNBA’s decision to overturn her eighth technical foul, which would have led to a suspension in Tuesday’s game against Liberty.
This technical was issued during Saturday’s tight 90-86 victory over the Sky, after she accidentally bumped into a referee while running along the baseline.
The league acted quickly, retracting the foul less than two hours post-game.
After the match, Clark shared that she spoke with the crew chief and felt optimistic about the foul being overturned.
“It became clear that the referee’s view didn’t match what really happened,” Clark commented. “I’m thrilled they rectified it, and I’m eager to play tonight.”
Clark, who scored 26 points and provided 11 assists in the Sky game, pointed out that the league still has room to improve its review processes.
“It definitely calls for more resources, additional personnel, and a variety of video angles,” she added. “Having a replay center next year is a significant advancement. Step by step, I believe quicker decisions would benefit everyone.”
She noted, “Some fans might have felt anxious after seeing the game on TV, so I’m relieved they acted swiftly, and I’m confident we can keep enhancing that.”
In other news, Brianna Stewart has her sights set on staying with the Liberty, keeping her focus on the remaining seven games before the World Cup break. Afterward, she will shift her focus to Team USA.
“I want to take it one game, one day at a time,” she said, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment.
While she isn’t planning extra rest days than normal, she is making the most of her downtime.
“Utilizing your rest days wisely is key,” she remarked. “I might skip the Bronx Zoo this time, but I still want to enjoy life.”
This week was highlighted by her daughter’s fifth birthday, although Stewart missed out on the rock climbing, which she described as “probably the best part.”
Meanwhile, even though Bethniya Rainey Hamilton is no longer with the Liberty, her teammates continue to support her.
“I’m genuinely happy for her,” Stewart said, referring to Rainey Hamilton, who was acquired by the Washington Mystics off waivers.
“Sometimes a fresh start is what you need,” Stewart added. “She’s faced numerous challenges throughout her career, not just in New York, and it looks like she’s in a good place now. We’re excited to see how she performs with the Mystics tonight.”
At 32, Rainey Hamilton stands as the Mystics’ oldest player, with only one teammate born before 2000.
Stewart is confident that her former teammate will provide essential leadership to this evolving team.
“She brings a dynamic that they lack,” Stewart said. “Her experience will be invaluable for them in both the locker room and on the court.”
