Kate Clark’s Injury Ahead of WNBA All-Star Weekend
Just days before her debut in the WNBA All-Star Game and her first professional three-point contest, Kate Clark faces potential setbacks due to a new injury.
Having already dealt with two injury spells this season, Clark seemed to hurt herself late in the fourth quarter during Tuesday’s 85-77 win against Connecticut.
Post-game, Fever’s coach, Stephanie White, commented on Clark’s condition, noting, “I felt something a bit in her groin area.”
As of now, her participation in Wednesday’s game at Barclays Center is uncertain.
In a key moment, with less than 40 seconds remaining in the game, Clark executed a hard dribble and set up Kelsey Mitchell for a backdoor layup, giving the Fever an 84-75 advantage.
After that play, Clark appeared to be in discomfort, holding her right hand in the groin region. This injury is reminiscent of one that kept her from four games earlier in the season before she returned on July 9.
She concluded the night with 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, playing for 28 minutes.
The Fever previously defeated the Liberty 102-88 on June 14, where Clark had a standout performance, scoring 32 points and shooting 50% beyond the arc. She also pulled in eight rebounds and distributed nine assists.
During that outing, the Liberty were missing starters Jonquel Jones and Leonie Fevich, although Fevich is expected to return for the upcoming game on Wednesday.
The anticipation built around Clark’s expected availability suggests that this matchup could be particularly exciting, much like their previous encounters this season.
One memorable game back on May 24 resulted in a controversial 90-88 loss for the Fever, with a disputed play concerning a shot before the buzzer involving Natasha Cloud. This incident lit a fire under the team regarding calls made during games.
Breanna Stewart had a lighter schedule on Tuesday, as noted by director Sandy Brondello, allowing her some rest before a packed post-All-Star Game agenda. Additionally, Nyara Sabally also received some downtime under similar circumstances.
This Friday, Cloud is set to participate in the WNBA Skills Challenge, alongside Kyler Diggins, Alisha Gray, Erica Wheeler, and Courtney Williams.
She will also be competing in the three-point contest with Clark, Sabrina Ionescu, Gray, Sonia Citron, and Kelsey Plum.
