Dream Edge Fever in Nail-Biter
INDIANAPOLIS – With just 9.1 seconds on the clock, Lynn Howard secured a crucial free throw, leading the Atlanta Dream to a narrow 91-90 victory over the Indiana Fever Tuesday night. The match was intense, especially in the fourth quarter, where Kate Clark sparked a rally that nearly turned the game around for Indiana.
Clark came alive early in the final period, sinking two deep three-pointers, and finished the game with an impressive 27 points and 11 assists.
Brittney Griner contributed significantly as well, scoring 21 points in the Dream’s first win of the season. Howard wasn’t far behind, netting 20 points and hitting four three-pointers.
Breonna Jones had a solid performance too, with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Alisha Gray added 16 points and 6 assists.
On the Fever’s side, Aaliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell stepped up, each scoring 24 points. The Fever initially led 76-65 at the start of the fourth quarter, but that lead didn’t hold.
Boston also grabbed 10 rebounds, hitting a free throw to push Indiana ahead 90-89 with 21.7 seconds remaining. It was their first lead since 2-0 at the game’s outset.
As the clock wound down, Natasha Howard had two opportunities to extend Atlanta’s lead, but her initial shot was blocked by Nia Coffey, and her second—a 12-foot jumper—didn’t find the mark.
Throughout the game, the atmosphere was electric. The crowd, which included two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and 2021 NASCAR champion Kyle Larson, witnessed a physical matchup that at one point seemed to favor Indiana when they took a 67-53 lead late in the third quarter.
However, as the game progressed, Indiana clawed back, cutting the deficit to 80-76 with Clark’s back-to-back three-pointers—one of which was a remarkable 30-footer coming in at 7:28 of the fourth quarter.
The Dream held a lead of 89-80 with just over four minutes left, but Indiana’s defense tightened. Mitchell hit a vital three-pointer, and Clark followed up with a layup before assisting Boston, tying the game at 1:04.
