Caleb McLaughlin Reflects on His Faith Journey
Caleb McLaughlin, known for his role in *Stranger Things*, recently shared insights about his faith and how it has provided him stability as he navigates a new chapter in both his life and career.
During an episode of the podcast “Podcrushed,” McLaughlin mentioned that his relationship with God has deepened over the past year, particularly as he faces the challenges of adulthood and public scrutiny. “I felt like I found my relationship with God and even my faith this year,” he expressed.
Rising to fame at just 13 years old as Lucas Sinclair in *Stranger Things*, which premiered in 2016, McLaughlin has been part of a series that has become a major success for Netflix. The fifth and final season recently debuted.
Now in his mid-20s, McLaughlin notes that his faith, while always present, has gained new significance as he’s matured. Although his father is a pastor and he grew up attending church, he never felt pressured into religious beliefs. “I’ve always felt a connection to God in my spirit,” he reflected, adding that he can’t pinpoint when it began—it has simply always been a part of him.
This past year, he has focused on minimizing distractions, aiming for a more meaningful connection with what truly matters in life. He reminisced, “Sometimes I feel like I just live my life, get into the world a little, and sometimes stop praying… But this year, I went to church more, prayed more, deleted social media, and my relationship with God deepened.” He emphasized how these changes helped him prepare for the next steps in his adult life.
McLaughlin believes his faith serves as a crucial anchor in the often tumultuous environment of Hollywood, where the quest for validation can be overwhelming. “Sometimes we get caught up in worldly desires, like approval,” he noted. However, he finds solace in prayer and his connection with God, something he trusts at any moment.
In a prior interview, McLaughlin described his acting career as a “mission” that he believes was divinely orchestrated. Though acting wasn’t initially on his radar, he now perceives it as a purposeful journey of his life.
