Caleb Williams Embraces Rivalry with Packers
Despite having just one year of NFL experience, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is already fully engaged in the rivalry with the Packers. During an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Friday, he shared some of his less-than-positive interactions with fans, specifically mentioning Green Bay, which drew cheers from the audience.
“I mean, they suck,” Williams remarked, prompting applause.
After being drafted as a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams secured a memorable win against the Packers at Lambeau Field during his rookie season, completing 21 of 29 passes for 148 yards and tossing a touchdown in the Bears’ 24-22 victory.
He was part of an impressive 11-game winning streak in 2024, featuring the Bears’ 10-game streak. The game against the Packers wasn’t without drama, as it relied on a last-second field goal from Malik Willis, who stepped in for an injured Jordan Love.
“After the match… we tried to make a Rambo leap and jumped into the crowd with fans,” Williams recounted at Fanatics Fest. “But then, Packers fans just started throwing stuff at you, trying to push you away. It’s a real leap—not just a little jump, you actually have to jump high while they’re shoving you.”
Last June, he even led a “Green Bay Sucks” chant at Old Crow Smokehouse, despite having watched the Packers during his childhood, particularly admiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
This upcoming season, the Bears are set to face the Packers at Lambeau Field in week 14, followed by another matchup at Soldier Field two weeks later. Williams’ recent comments have only added fuel to this ongoing rivalry.
In the off-season, Chicago has brought in Ben Johnson as their new head coach to help Williams find his groove in his second year after a rocky start as a rookie. Following the firing of Matt Evals, the Bears now aim to develop a more effective offense under Johnson, who previously directed the Lions’ offense.
