of Chicago Bears The Bears are entering their 105th season in franchise history, and for most of that time they have been defined by three things: a ferocious defense, the best running back of all time, and a lineage of the most miserable quarterbacks in NFL history.
The Bears are the only team in the NFL to have never had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards in a season. Most of the team’s passing records are held by either Sid Luckman or Jay Cutler, both of whom have been active since before World War II. It seems like the Bears finally have a franchise quarterback, but it’s not Bears fans who are raving about Caleb Williams.
The No. 1 overall pick was outstanding again in Saturday’s NFL preseason game. Cincinnati Bengalsand various comparisons and predictions have arisen on the Internet. Miami Dolphins Star Tyreek Hill — He was recently recognized as the best player in the NFL by his peers. — tweeted this about Williams during the game.
Caleb Williams is a very nice guy and reminds me of…

Hill is comparing Williams to the guy who used to throw passes to him, and he’s not talking about Tua Tagovailoa. Hill says the Bears rookie reminds him of Patrick Mahomes. That’s some good company.
Williams has been compared to Mahomes since his time at Oklahoma, but now he’s beginning to prove that his “backyard” style of play can translate to the highest level of the game. After struggling in the first quarter, Williams started to pick up steam in the second quarter, first by linking up with fellow rookie Rome Odunze to make some big shots downfield.
He ended the drive with a spectacular scramble that scored a touchdown for the Bears. Watch as Williams steps into the pocket, evades pressure, and breaks containment to reach the end zone.
Can Caleb Williams be a top 10 QB as a rookie? CJ Stroud did it last year, and Williams seems up to the task so far.
It always felt like it would take a miracle for the Bears to land their franchise quarterback, and that miracle did happen. The Bears acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft thanks to an improbable win over Lovie Smith’s Houston Texans on the season finale. The Bears traded that pick to the Panthers for a package that included a first-round pick in 2024. Caleb Williams joined the Bears as the Panthers finished the year as the worst team in football.
Incidentally, Williams was asked about Hill’s tweet after the game, and he had the perfect response.
On being compared to Mahomes, Caleb said: “I respect it, it’s cool, it’s what it is, but I’m Caleb Williams. Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek Hill is Tyreek Hill.”

Chicago has never seen anything like this before, so Williams will be a blast to watch and his new NFL cohorts are already taking notice.
