Caleb Williams’ Kliff Kingsbury Instagram post adds to NFL draft drama

Caleb Williams approves of Washington’s splashy hire.

Williams, who could play for the Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft, supports the Commanders hiring Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury was reportedly slated to take the Raiders’ offensive coordinator job, but declined and served as USC’s senior offensive analyst last season.

“Congratulations, my daughter.” Posted by Williams His Instagram Story features an ESPN mockup photo of Kingsbury in Commanders gear.

Williams’ comments add some intrigue ahead of more than two months of speculation leading up to a quarterback-filled draft.

Williams is considered by many to be the top player in the draft, and many mocks would make him the Bears’ first pick.

There’s some debate as to what the Bears will do, as they already acquired Justin Fields and have publicly supported him, but that’s before the team traded him and drafted Williams this offseason. It may just be the result of trying to increase his value.

Fields is a great runner, but he hasn’t developed much as a passer.

The Bears could easily select Williams, but Washington is a close second and just hired a coach that Williams clearly supports.

Washington could try to step up for Williams, but the Bears should be comfortable sticking with Fields or acquiring either Jaden Daniels or Drake Maye.

Colin Cowherd said on FOX Sports last week that he had heard Williams didn’t want to play for the Bears and that managers could make a move to acquire the two-way star, but on Friday Williams’ camp reported that he intended to play for the Bears. If the Bears make him their first choice, he will play for the Bears.

Williams, the 2022 Heisman winner, played well under Kingsbury’s tutelage last season.

He threw for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns, but only threw five interceptions and added 136 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

USC didn’t live up to expectations as a team, but Williams did his part.

Now, all eyes are on whether he’ll be paired with Kingsbury again in Washington, or whether Williams can finally be the quarterback savior Chicago has been waiting for.
