In Democrat-run California’s In-N-Out Burger chain has seen prices rise in the wake of a $20 minimum wage, making it more expensive for families to enjoy a quick meal together.
A double-double at a fast-food restaurant, which comes with fries and a drink, can cost more than $10 before tax in the state. Orange County Register report on sunday.
“Meals outside In-N-Out’s Irvine headquarters currently cost $10.45 for a double-double, $8.65 for a cheeseburger and $8.15 for a hamburger,” the outlet reported.
In April, In-N-Out President Lynsey Snyder Said She has fought in company meetings to keep costs down as fast-food prices rise in California due to inflation and minimum wage changes that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed into law in 2023 and took effect on April 1. New York Post report.
“I was in vice president meetings frantically saying, ‘We can’t raise prices that much, we can’t do this.’ We felt an obligation to look after our customers,” she said.
Meanwhile, the minimum wage hike has reportedly led to the elimination of about 10,000 jobs at fast food restaurants in California.
It’s also worth noting that as inflation puts pressure on consumer wallets, Walmart’s sales have increased as people avoid fast-food counters and buy more groceries, Breitbart News reported in May.
The media continues:
Some customers feel that grocery store items are becoming cheaper while fast food is becoming more expensive. According to CNBC, the sales increase sent Walmart’s shares “to a record high on Thursday after the company said it beat Wall Street’s quarterly sales and earnings estimates and that it expects full-year results to be at or above the high end of its previous guidance.”
Walmart also saw a 3.8% increase in transactions both in its stores and online during the quarter, while its restaurants, including McDonald’s, Starbucks and Yum Brands, saw sales decline.
Additionally, Lending Tree recently surveyed 2,000 American adults and found that 78% of them consider fast food a luxury. According to Breitbart News, this news comes as inflation weighs heavily on people across the country under the leadership of President Biden (Democrat).
