California’s new Raising Cane’s planned as part of West Coast growth

Raising Cane’s, the fast food chain known for its fried chicken, is making significant strides in California just months after celebrating the opening of its 1,000th location in Hollywood.

Originally established about 30 years ago at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, the chain is now targeting more affluent neighborhoods in California.

Plans have been confirmed for three new restaurants in the upscale North Bay area this year, as reported by local business sources.

One of these new locations will take over the former Amy’s Drive-Thru spot in Rohnert Park, located in Sonoma County, which is generally a middle-class area.

A permit application indicates that Raising Cane’s will lease the site at 58 Golf Course Drive West, where Amy’s Drive-Thru operated until it closed in March after a decade in business. Shortly after, Raising Cane’s secured the 4,098-square-foot space.

The chain is also looking to expand into Napa Valley, eyeing a location that used to house a KFC. Permits for this 2,676-square-foot restaurant in the South Napa Marketplace Shopping Center are currently under review, although there’s no set opening date yet.

Additionally, a third new restaurant is planned for Vallejo, situated within a mixed-use development called Fairview at Northgate, which also includes a new Costco.

Although the exact dates for these openings remain unannounced, the Costco is expected to start welcoming customers this fall.

Raising Cane’s growth has positioned it just ahead of Wingstop as the third-largest fried chicken chain based on sales. Projected revenues for the company in 2025 are anticipated to reach $5.49 billion, surpassing Wingstop and KFC, yet still trailing behind Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
