It’s Heating Up in Denver!

During the initial 12 days of training camp, everything seemed to be running smoothly for the Denver Broncos as they prepared for the upcoming season. However, on the 13th day—this past Tuesday—things took a chaotic turn with a brawl breaking out.

According to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, the trouble began with rookie tight end Justin Joly. Not long after, Joly made a catch but was abruptly “de-cleated” by linebacker Taurean York, another rookie. This apparently raised the spirits of the Broncos’ defense.

The atmosphere escalated from there.

Later in practice, linebacker Nik Bonitto and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach pressured the pocket so effectively that quarterback Bo Nix ended up on the ground. It was reportedly the second instance during training camp where Roach had been involved in Nix’s downfall, leading Nix to express his frustration by throwing the ball in anger.

It’s essential to note that defensive players generally aren’t supposed to hit the quarterback during practice, but thankfully Nix was uninjured and ready to continue.

By this point, the tension on the field was palpable, prompting the Broncos to send Bonitto to the sidelines to help him cool down.

After successfully completing a pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, Nix then threw an interception to linebacker Alex Singleton. As Singleton was attempting a return, the ball was knocked loose, leading to what Klis described as a “melee.” Nix, still fuming from earlier events, had to be physically restrained by teammates after he attempted to pull Bonitto away from a pile of players.

Reports from Stevens and Klis indicated that offensive guard Calvin Throckmorton ended up bleeding from his face as a result of the incident, necessitating a trip to the locker room while trainers applied an ice pack to his left eye.

After witnessing this drama, who else is ready for another weekend of preseason football? I know I definitely am!
