Cam Johnson knows his Nets future is uncertain after career year

As a veteran who is in his career year, but in honor of his rebuilding team, Come Johnson knows the business to the point he thinks he’ll come in trade talks.

What he wants to know from Nets GM Sean Marks is how he will help win as a leader or as a trade chip to fit into the team’s future plans.

“You definitely want to go and ask him because you have a very vested interest in what we’re doing here,” Johnson said. “I feel like I’m putting a lot of effort into trying to be part of this program, and I take it very seriously, and I feel like I’m given the responsibility to have that approach.

“I definitely want to know everything that’s ongoing and I understand that I’m not going to accept every decision or speak up on every decision, but I’d like to know in the future. But it’s also my job to do my own work at this point, get better and handle being professional in situations.”

Johnson recorded 18.8 points on .475/.390/.893 shot splits. At 29, he could be key to star trade, draft picks and trade assets to stay as a veteran leader.

“There was no shortage of teams making calls. [Johnson]. He’s a good player and they value him, but we do so too,” Marks said.

There are many free agents online.

Restrictions are available to Cam Thomas, Day’ron Sharpe, Ziaire Williams, Tyson Etienne and Reece Beekman. Trendern Watford is unlimited, but Keon Johnson, Tyres Martin, Jalane Wilson and Drew Tim have team options that must be exercised by June 29th.

The net has an exclusive window to lock up Thomas, Sharp and Williams from the day after the NBA Finals before free agency begins.

“I’m not used to this, so whatever happens, it happens, but I like Brooklyn, so God is happy [I’ll be back]Sharp said.

Two sources spoke about in the post have increased Thomas’ value to $20 million a year, but Spotrac proposed re-signing for three years and $45 million.

“I know the value I bring to my team, so I don’t get blackmailed or excited, I had to see what that would turn out,” Thomas said. “But I definitely know my worth and all my work.”

Nic Claxton said his back issues kept the entire season, but that the process should not be necessary this summer.

“Yeah, I still need to get it right. It’s still honestly bothering me. But we got the whole offseason. I still managed to play 70 games, so that’s a blessing,” Claxton said. “So there is time to lock in this summer.

“I’m going to get it right. I have a plan, but there’s no surgery or anything.”
