Kam Skatebo Makes His Comeback
Kam Skatebo is finally getting back on his feet.
On Wednesday morning, the rookie running back for the Giants shared a video on his Instagram Story, capturing the moment he stepped into the team facility in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for the first time since suffering a severe ankle injury during a Week 8 matchup against the Eagles.
“Hey, I walked into the facility on my own two feet,” Skatebo exclaimed in the video. “God is good. Just want to thank everyone for their support. I’m back, let’s go!”
The 23-year-old suffered a dislocated right ankle when tackled from behind midway through the second quarter—a moment so intense that some of his teammates turned away. He was then carried off the field with his ankle in an air cast, getting a standing ovation from the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field.
In November, on YouTuber N3on’s show, Skatebo explained the injury further, revealing he fractured his fibula and tore a ligament that connects from, well, the top of his foot down to his ankle. “My ankle was completely dislocated because I broke a bone. It was at about a 90-degree angle,” he recounted. “There’s a tendon that connects the two bones, and that tore as well. So they put something called a tightrope in there, to hold the bones together.”
It’s fascinating—but also a bit daunting, I think. Skatebo had previously worn a boot on his right foot and relied on a knee walker to get around.
Yet, despite the seriousness of his injury, Skatebo has not let it dampen his accomplishments during his time away. He made quite the impact, even sitting courtside at a Knicks-Jazz game at Madison Square Garden, capturing attention during a memorable WWE appearance back in November.
Recently, he also enjoyed some festive moments in New York City with his girlfriend, Chloe Rodriguez. She shared a collection of photos on Instagram that captured the couple in front of a Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, among other shots around Times Square. “Thank you for keeping me warm,” she wrote in the caption.
Rodriguez, a graduate of Cal State Sacramento, has known Skatebo since their college days at Arizona State and supported him throughout this year’s NFL Draft.
Before his season ended, Skatebo made a mark with 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries, plus 207 receiving yards and two more touchdowns.
The anticipation now is for Skatebo to be healthy enough to join the Giants’ training camp in July.
