Cameron Young joins exclusive club after shooting 59 at Travelers Championship

Another member has joined the 59 Club.

Cameron Young became just the 12th PGA player to break 60 in the third round of the Travelers Championship on Saturday.

He became just the 13th player in PGA history to finish under 60, with Jim Furyk having finished under 60 twice, including a record-low 58 in 2016.

Young’s 59 was 11 under par and he went into the clubhouse in a share of the lead after trailing by 11 strokes.

Young’s 59 start was set early, with a birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie streak that included a hole-out from 142 yards on the par-4 third hole. He closed out the first nine holes with consecutive birdies to take the turn in 28 strokes.

He slowed down a bit, but perhaps his best shot of the day came on the driveable par-4 15th when he drove onto the green and placed the ball just four feet from the pin for an easy eagle to move to 10 under for the day.

Young made history with a 9-foot par putt, sliding it into the back door for the lowest score.

Scottie Scheffler surprises PGA Tour fans who waited over an hour

In total, he had nine pars, seven birdies, two eagles and zero bogeys, including a 115-foot putt.

It was his first 59 on tour since Scottie Scheffler did it at the Northern Trust at TPC Boston in 2020, but he’s just the seventh player overall on the pro tours this year to score under 60.

That includes a 59 by Joaquin Niemann of LIV Golf and a record-tying 57 by Cristobal del Solar on the Korn Ferry Tour in Bogota, Colombia.

Due to muddy course conditions and the possibility of further rain, Young was able to lift his golf ball, wipe it off and place it on the short grass.

He could have gone even lower. After an eagle on the 15th, Young hit his tee shot to 7 feet on the par-3 16th and missed a short birdie putt.
