We’ve poured trillions of dollars into making the Middle East into a Western-style democracy, and where has it gotten us? Well, Iraq is about to lower the legal age of consent from 18 to 9 — effectively legalizing child rape — so I’d say just about nowhere.
The law hasn’t yet been adopted, but it is making its way through Iraq’s Parliament. And there’s no reason to think that a country governed by Stone Age barbarians wouldn’t go there. Now, I won’t descend to the level of hackery required to lay blame at the feet of the American Left. But it is a fundamentally liberal project to not only praise, but fund, vastly disparate cultures in the hopes they will conform to our vision of society and recognize our own “universal” view of morality. Since 2015, the liberal cucks at the State Department have funneled nearly $3.5 billion in taxpayer dollars to Iraq for “humanitarian and development assistance,” including support for “vulnerable and marginalized groups” and “promoting women’s education.” All that blood and treasure just to wind back the clock to child brides?
In reality, our values are not universal, but the byproduct of a distinctly Western Judeo-Christian culture that cannot simply be grafted onto the Muslim world. There’s a lesson here: No amount of cash will ever get Iraqi women to burn their bras or Iraqi men to reckon with their “toxic masculinity.” Liberals — both of the progressive left and neoconservative right — must accept that Baghdad will never be Berkeley. All they’re doing is funding the exploitation of women and children, the very thing they claim to stand against.
