As fans filed in to watch the men’s team all-around final, all eyes were on the Canadian team, whose tracksuits garnered attention.
The team, consisting of René Cournoyer, William Aimard, Zachary Clay, Felix Dolci and Samuel Zaktny, were aiming for their first medal in the event after finishing seventh at the 2023 World Championships.
However, Canada finished in eighth place with a total score of 245.426 points, while Japan won the gold medal with 259.594 points.
The US team won the bronze medal, while China’s star-studded team took the silver medal.
But social media was more interested in what Canada was wearing ahead of the competition than it was in how they performed.
Their tracksuits, manufactured by American and Canadian sporting goods retailer Lululemon Athletica, looked a lot like Canadian bacon.
Fans made fun of the bizarre outfit.
“There’s a reason they call it Canadian bacon,” one fan wrote to X. Email.
“I may never forgive Lululemon for this,” another person quipped.
“Team Canada looks tasty,” a third added.
This isn’t the first time Canadian athletes have captured viewers’ attention.
Canada’s Krista DeGucci and Ethan Katzburg also wore the outfits.
Deguchi won Canada’s first gold medal in judo, while Catsburg secured top spot in the men’s hammer throw.
Additionally, Canadian bronze medalist Sofiane Meth also wore the same zip-up when she stepped onto the podium after the women’s trampoline gymnastics final.
So far, Canada has won 17 gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals.
Looking back at Beijing 2022, Canada also showed up in eye-catching outfits. Canadian ice hockey star John Tavares Depicted in X She created a buzz on social media wearing another Lululemon-inspired outfit.
Users commented that the costumes were “terrible,” while others expressed concern about what Team USA will wear.
