Canada Bars Irish Hip Hop Group Kneecap
Canada has denied entry to the Irish hip hop group Kneecap, citing their alleged support for terrorist organizations as the main reason. This decision was communicated by Vince Gasparo, a councillor responsible for criminal policy, who shared the news on a social media platform on Friday, noting that the group had promoted pro-Palestinian factions during their performances. Additionally, Kneecap’s frontman, Liam O’Hanna, is under scrutiny in the UK for allegedly displaying the Hezbollah flag during a show in London.
Gasparo stated, “On behalf of the Canadian government, we have determined that Kneecap is not permitted to enter our country.” He emphasized that political violence, terrorism, and anti-Semitism are things the government will not accept or support in any form.
He further explained that Kneecap’s actions and statements have raised serious concerns and are in direct contradiction to Canadian values and laws. These actions, he noted, warrant a significant warning from the government.
Kneecap has been accused of endorsing political violence and publicly aligning with groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. Gasparo reiterated that Canada will not serve as a platform for promoting extremism or such political violence.
The group was set to perform in Toronto and Vancouver in October. They previously canceled a planned 15-stop tour in the U.S. that was to begin in early September.
