Canadian Hockey Player Tom Wilson Ejected in Olympic Match

During a match against France at the Winter Olympics, Canadian ice hockey player Tom Wilson was ejected after a collision with Pierre Crinnon, a French defenseman. The incident occurred in the third period, escalating tensions between the two players.

This altercation followed a previous hit where Crinnon elbowed Canadian center Nathan MacKinnon. Crinnon received a two-minute penalty for that play and later expressed his apologies to MacKinnon.

Interestingly, both Wilson and Crinnon found themselves leaving the ice before the game concluded, which is quite rare since, traditionally, penalties in the Olympics tend to be less severe—meaning a significant five-minute penalty wouldn’t apply here, leading to their ejections instead.

In the game, Wilson did make an impact before his exit, contributing with a goal and an assist, achieving what fans refer to as a “Gordie Howe hat trick.” It’s worth noting that Wilson, who plays for the Washington Capitals, is among a few new additions to Team Canada that weren’t part of the lineup in the previous year’s tournament. That event was a unique format, where teams raced to show their best times in the first nine seconds of each game.

This season, Wilson has scored 23 goals and provided 26 assists, helping the Capitals, who are currently in fourth place in their division, during the Olympic break.

Canada Dominates France

Canada achieved a decisive 10-2 victory over France in this qualifying match. Sidney Crosby, another Canadian star, scored three points in this game, which not only contributed to the win but also allowed him to surpass Jarome Iginla as the Olympic team’s leading scorer for NHL players.

In terms of group play, Canada wrapped up with three wins and a goal difference of -17, indicating a strong performance despite some challenges along the way.
