Canadian ambassador to UN on Trump rhetoric: ‘We deserve to be treated with respect’

Bob Rei, UN ambassador to the United Nations, criticized President Trump on recent comments and actions about Canada, and said the government deserves respect.

Only a few days after the president signing a 25 % tariff order in Canada, RAE participated in a special report on Fox News on Monday. Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later reached an agreement to hold tariffs for one month, but the impact on trade wars and the country has caused significant concerns throughout the country.

“The concern that all Canadians have is not a personal thing about President Trump. We are concerned about the management, uncertainty, and the real collapse of the market. I don't want to make a decision … that's a very arbitrary way.Ray said.

Ray said that Canadian officials want to “rational and wise” discussions on how to move forward.

Trump's order also affects Mexico and China. The President has defended the US trade partner as a way to stop the flow of immigrants and Fentanyl that crossed the south and northern borders.

“We are not the 51st state. We are an independent country of sovereignty,” Ray said. “Our leaders are worth being treated with respect, and we worth being treated with respect. That is the way we want to proceed.
