An 80-year-old Canadian woman with Alzheimer’s disease was raped by a fellow Canadian tourist at a Bahamian resort last month, according to her family.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was vacationing with her daughter at the Warwick Hotel Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas.
The woman’s son, David Ahrens, wrote on LinkedIn. post: “Rape is never acceptable. I have very difficult news to share with you. On January 28th, at the Warwick Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas, my 80-year-old grandmother and great-grandmother said: He has Alzheimer’s disease and was sexually assaulted and raped by a hotel guest.
While staying at the resort, the man allegedly invited her to dinner with her vacationing family and their friends. Ahrens said her sister got separated from her mother while riding in an elevator, leaving the older woman alone with dinner guests.
Aherns said her sisters searched her mother floor by floor for about 45 minutes.
The search for the 80-year-old woman also included Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Tom Justice, who was in the Bahamas on assignment.

The son claimed a 61-year-old Canadian man from Nova Scotia was arrested.
