Candace Cameron Bure Doesn’t Enjoy Scary Movies
Candace Cameron Bure, the 49-year-old actress known for her role in “Full House,” recently shared her reasons for avoiding horror films, especially at home. She’s outspoken about her Christian beliefs, and this influences her preferences.
During a recent episode of her podcast, Bure discussed how scary movies feel like a “portal” for her. She expressed that when her children make fun of her thoughts, it’s particularly unsettling when they focus on something troubling she’s going through. “It’s like opening a portal,” she said while hosting guests, including her son Lev and pastor Jonathan Pokluda.
Bure explained, “It’s like you’re letting something into your home. Whether it’s a movie or video game, it just opens the door to unwanted influences.” Because of this belief, she prefers not to allow horror movies in her household.
Even though she’s part of the film industry and understands what goes into making movies—a large crew, elaborate effects, makeup, and acting—she still feels cautious about the genre. “I get how it all works,” she remarked.
Interestingly, her conversation drifted to a marketing campaign involving a cursed water brand. Bure referred to an incident where she questioned the decision to buy something deemed “cursed” just because it was on the market.
Despite her apprehensions about horror, Bure has acted in several murder mysteries like the “Ainsley McGregor Mysteries” and “Aurora Tea Garden Mystery,” where her characters tackle crime. It’s somewhat ironic, she acknowledged, being in the industry yet holding such reservations about horror films.
Her family often pokes fun at her views on scary movies, with her children sometimes thinking her fears are exaggerated. “They laugh at me,” she admitted, but she stands firm in her beliefs.
Bure also touched on a personal note regarding her husband, whom she’s been married to since 1996. She mentioned that she deliberately avoids watching any kissing scenes from her films, stating, “It’s just uncomfortable for anyone, even if it’s just a peck.” Her spouse prefers not to see those moments on screen, but they’ve had open discussions about it to navigate their feelings.
She felt no shame in sharing her perspectives, especially in light of the changing landscape of Hollywood, where she expresses hope for a more open environment regarding faith. “People seem a little scared of being canceled, but I truly believe there’s space to share our beliefs now, even if they differ from those around us,” she stated during an event, indicating a positive outlook for the future.
