Candace Owens blasts Daily Wire, says it’s leaking antisemitism claims

Candace Owens slammed her former employer, The Daily Wire, on Wednesday, alleging that she was asked to comment about a recent newspaper article that alleged she engaged in anti-Semitic and homophobic conduct at the company.

Owens, a former blogger who rose to prominence during the Trump administration’s campaign to persuade African-American voters to leave the Democratic Party, posted a video on his social media accounts alleging that he had mistreated staff at his former employer, a Daily Wire leak.

In her video, which had been viewed more than 1.3 million times as of Thursday afternoon, Owens adamantly denied the allegation that she threw a can of drink at a junior staff member.

The controversial media personality, who has reportedly been blacklisted by the Daily Wire prohibiting him from disparaging the company, posted a video to his X social media accounts on Wednesday informing his more than 5 million followers that he had been approached for comment by a Daily Mail reporter who had contacted his spokesperson.

Owens issued a statement to The Washington Post saying, “I have been overwhelmed with requests from past and present Daily Wire employees to speak on the record to journalists.”

She said her former colleagues were “incredibly brave” in coming forward and that it was “a reminder that loyalty cannot be enforced through threats or contracts.”

“The tactic of using anonymous sources to spread lies about people is outdated, and I believe in the future we will discover who is behind these lies,” Owens said, vowing, “Stay tuned, this is just the beginning.”

The Post has reached out to the Daily Mail and the Daily Wire for comment.

Owens said the Daily Mail reporter had asked him to comment about a soon-to-be-published “aggressive article” that claimed the Daily Wire had terminated its contract with the incendiary host because her show wasn’t generating enough revenue.

Owens said her character was being “attacked” and “vilified” by “an entire network operating behind the scenes” for speaking the “truth” that “Christ is King.”

She said certain individuals had leaked “false” and “concocted” allegations to the Daily Mail, including that she “blamed producers for the show’s failure.”

Owens also said the Daily Mail article “dismissed her from working with certain advertisers” and that “senior management [at Daily Wire] They had a moral obligation to fire her because of her “growing anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories.”

She said the Daily Mail article would allege that she had “mistreated” makeup artists and interns at the Daily Wire.

Owens told the Daily Mail that a “source” witnessed him throw a can of drink at a junior member of staff.

“The attack that I am unyielding as a Christian has failed,” Owens said, claiming he is “the exact opposite of that claim.”

Owens’ acrimonious departure from The Daily Wire comes after months of tension between her and co-founder Ben Shapiro.

Shapiro strongly criticized Owens’ comments, which came in the wake of Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel and Israel’s subsequent military response in Gaza.

Owens gained attention in the weeks after the Oct. 7 massacre by denouncing “genocide,” but later said he was not referring to Israel.

In March, the Anti-Defamation League accused Owens of spewing “vitriolic anti-Semitism.” Owens denied the allegations, saying:[es] I do not believe that American taxpayers should foot the bill for Israel’s wars, or the wars of other countries.”

After he left The Daily Wire, Owens and Shapiro publicly discussed hosting a debate but were unable to agree on a suitable time and location.

While the two men publicly negotiated the terms of the debate, lawyers for The Daily Wire reportedly obtained a gag order barring Owens from publicly criticizing the company.
