Cannes – Candice Parker’s Ambitions in WNBA Ownership

Candice Parker is eyeing a stake in WNBA ownership. During her appearance at Cannes Lions, hosted by Stagwell, the former player expressed her intent to claim a piece of the team-owned sector within the league.

Since retiring in April 2024, Parker has been focused on women’s sports, stating, “I’m handling everything myself now, looking to get involved with WNBA teams or ownership.” She highlighted the impressive growth in women’s sports, pointing out, “95% of sports you see on TV feature men. Do you think that number will change? It’s about time.”

The number one pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Sparks did not specify which team she is interested in acquiring.

Currently, Parker serves as an analyst for NBA TV and TNT, while also holding the title of president of Adidas Women’s Basketball, a brand that made history with her signature basketball shoe in 2010.

Parker is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won in 2008 and 2012.

Her career accolades include seven All-Star selections and three championships with different teams: the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016, the Chicago Sky in 2021, and the Las Vegas Aces in 2023. Additionally, she was part of the last two national championship teams coached by the late Pat Summitt in Tennessee during 2007 and 2008.

As she transitions from her WNBA career, Parker has expressed admiration for Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez, a 14-time MLB All-Star. “The 2009 World Series champion and three-time AL MVP winner,” Rodriguez has made an impression on her.
