Candace Dillard Reacts to Wendy Osefo’s Arrest
Candace Dillard expressed that she was both “shocked” and “saddened” upon hearing about the arrest of her former “Real Housewives of Potomac” co-star, Wendy Osefo, who was apprehended right before a live TV appearance. Dillard questioned the validity of this event.
“My initial thought was, are they being targeted? Is this something we need to consider?” Dillard, 38, shared in an interview with a local Fox station in Washington, DC.
“I feel as though there’s a concerted effort to target the women,” she said, referencing another co-star, Karen Huger, who recently completed a six-month prison sentence for DUI.
Dillard remarked on how “two women from the same show, one that highlights African-American women—especially in a time when people are being unjustly taken off the streets—are facing such serious scrutiny,” indicating her doubts about their detention.
“I want to see all the information before making any conclusions,” she noted.
Dillard mentioned that both Wendy and her husband, Edward “Eddie” Osefo, who were both arrested on fraud charges, are “managers” and “entrepreneurs.” She highlighted that the Osefos have a lucrative business in the marijuana industry, providing jobs and opportunities for people of color in their community.
“I’m not clear on what the charges entail, but they’re well-regarded for what they contribute to the area,” she remarked.
Wendy was arrested on federal criminal and misdemeanor fraud charges, with her husband facing a total of 18 similar charges. According to reports, he and Wendy lied to law enforcement about a burglary that supposedly occurred during a trip to Jamaica in April 2024.
It’s been indicated that the couple had an ADT alarm system that didn’t operate as expected and that their Ring cameras seemingly only recorded package deliveries.
Dillard conveyed her empathy, stating, “I know her family, and they are devastated by this. It gives me chills thinking about it.”
She mentioned having spoken to Wendy, 41, “not too long ago,” and that Wendy hadn’t indicated any problems at the time.
Despite her theories about the charges, authorities have laid out court documents detailing the allegations. The documents claim the couple filed false insurance claims for stolen items, including a distinctive diamond band belonging to Wendy that wasn’t initially reported as missing.
Investigators reportedly discovered through social media that Wendy was seen wearing the ring and noted that the couple was experiencing “significant debt” when the incident was reported.
Moreover, it was found that many items the Osefos claimed were stolen had actually been returned to stores for refunds prior to the alleged theft.
Wendy now faces 16 charges related to insurance fraud and conspiracy, alongside a charge for providing false information to authorities. Eddie is contending with similar charges, totaling 18 counts.
A spokesperson confirmed that each Osefo posted $50,000 bail and is in the process of being released. Wendy is not only a reality star but also serves as a political commentator for CNN and has multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. in political science. She also manages her own candle business and co-founded a cannabis brand with her husband in 2023.
