Candle Vigil at ASU Honors Charlie Kirk’s Legacy
A candlelight vigil took place on Monday at Desert Financial Arena, located on the Arizona State University campus, to commemorate Charlie Kirk. Interestingly, this university is just a few miles from the headquarters of Turning Point USA.
Many at the vigil wore “I Am Charlie” t-shirts, and a number of attendees donned red attire, including MAGA hats, showcasing their support for the slain conservative leader.
The speaker took this somber occasion to turn the tragedy into a call for activism, sharing his Christian faith and reflecting on the influence Kirk had on his friends and colleagues.
A Nationwide Tribute
Vigils were held at universities across the country in the wake of Kirk’s assassination. Tyler Bowyer, involved with Turning Point Action, emphasized the importance of using this moment for engagement in conservative movements, urging attendees to register to vote. He boldly stated, “2026 will be Charlie Kirk’s election, and 2028 will be Kirk Vance’s election.”
Peter Gentra, president of the Arizona Policy Center, remarked on the loss, calling it “personal” and lamenting the impact of Kirk’s death on the state and the nation.
Occasionally during the vigil, attendees chanted “Charlie” and “America,” led by the College Republican Chapter of ASU along with Turning Point USA.
Encouraging Action Among Young Voters
Troyholder, a member of the ASU College Republicans, shared thoughts on fostering activism, saying, “Starting or joining the Turning Point chapter, registering for votes, sharing their faith,” could all lead to significant change. He believes that this situation might mobilize more voters for the future.
Luke Mosiman, chairman of the Arizona Young Republicans, pointed out that Kirk’s influence was particularly resonant with Generation Z, which could make this a pivotal moment for young conservatives.
Community Service and Memorials
In the days following the tragedy, Kirk’s body was flown to Phoenix in Air Force 2. A large celebration of his life is planned for Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Bowyer shared that voter registration efforts will be a key part of this event.
He announced on social media that they aim to provide numerous voter registration forms during the celebration, expecting to register tens of thousands of new voters in Kirk’s honor. Additionally, a prominent memorial exhibition has been set up outside both Hansen’s funeral chapel and the TPUSA headquarters in South Phoenix.
As the community mourns Kirk’s tragic death, many see this moment as an opportunity to galvanize support and inspire action among future generations. It’s a complex blend of sorrow and motivation, perhaps highlighting the urgency felt in many circles today.
