Cannes Blackout Investigated by French Police

Authorities in France are looking into the cause of a significant blackout that affected the Alpes region, including Cannes, on Saturday. This area is known for hosting the renowned annual film festival.

A spokesperson for the French National General mentioned that they are considering the possibility of a deliberate fire as a factor, although, at this point, no arrests have been made.

Local officials reported that the western part of Alpes-Maritimes, which includes Cannes, is experiencing a severe power outage, and efforts by RTE France are underway to restore electricity.

Despite the situation, the Cannes Film Festival confirmed that the closing ceremony would proceed as planned on Saturday evening.

According to their statement, “The Palais des Festivals will switch to independent power sources, ensuring that all scheduled events and screenings, including the closing ceremony, will continue as planned and under normal conditions.”
